Phase II

POPULUS ROMANUS PROJECT
Phase 2: Website Construction

Recall the prime directive of the project: Keep your identity secret, and base all work on the knowledge you have gained from historical research.

Overview: For the second part of this project, you will set up a webpage dedicated to your figure. You will not begin to interact with other figures in this phase. Instead, you will make use of the the fruits of your (ongoing) research to do the following:

1)    Write a “Welcome” script for your page using the biography section from the Profile Page.  Your bio should:

Ø Use the first person (“I” or “We”)
Ø Introduce your POPULUS ROMANUS figure by providing basic biographical details
Ø Establish the significance of your POPULUS ROMANUS figure
Ø Be between 7-20 sentences. (When you post your bio, it should not extend much further down your webpage than your picture.
Ø Leave information for your announcements to share. You might take your bio up to a certain point in your life and tell the rest through announcements.
Ø Show some spirit.  Try to bring your particular POPULUS ROMANUS figure to life as much as possible!
Ø Be polished. Your bio will be posted for all to seeMake sure you proofread.

2)    Find and post a picture or symbol representing your figure. Make a hyperlink for the picture so that a visitor can go to where you found the picture.

3)    Post an annotated bibliography of sources.  It should include citations and descriptions of all sources you used for your research.  Be sure to use the correct bibliography format. (See handout and examples on citation page.) Do label Primary/Secondary in description. If you did this already properly for Phase 1, this should be easy!  Again, be sure to proofread.
4)    Create a Roman history timeline for your webpage.  Include all of the dates on the basic Roman timeline you were given in class.  Then add events specific to your figure.  You must include:  birth, death, and at least two important events your figure would have been involved in which are not on the basic timeline you were given. Put this timeline directly under your name at the top of the webpage. (You may create your timeline using any of the programs presented by Mrs. Cusick, or a program you find yourself.)

5)    Use the information from your general information about Roman life to create a “Day in the Life” of your character – include as many details appropriate to your figure as possible.  You may use programs suggested by Mrs. Cusick or others you find yourself.  Make this part fun!

Optional additions to your web page:
1) Optional: Put other representations of people or symbols associated with your figure into a personal picture library. Note: Do NOT put pictures of “Friends” into a picture library yet!

2) Optional: Provide links that might pertain to your figure in some way.

3) Optional: Provide documents that you have collected or created yourself that provide additional information about your figure.

4) Optional: Come up with your own idea of something to add to your web page that will enhance our understanding of your character,  and have your idea pre-approved by Mrs. Nixon.

Due-date:  The deadline for Phase 2 is Mon. 5/9. Your homework for tonight is to revise your biography for posting tomorrow as a “Welcome”.  (You may work on Optional pieces beyond this date.)

Technology Help: You might encounter some technological difficulties in the project, so please ask me, Mrs. Cusick, or Mrs. Ramser for help.  You may also ask each other for general tech help, but you must do so without compromising your identity (i.e., give verbal instructions or suggestions rather than looking on someone’s screen).    Before you ask any questions, however, make sure that you are signed in as your figure!

Good luck and have fun!
